FORT MYERS, Fla. — A winning $114 million Mega Millions ticket sold in Fort Myers weeks after Hurricane Ian battered the area.

The winning ticket, purchased the morning after Hurricane Ian pounded the state’s southwest, was sold the first of 10 daily drawings for Friday’s game, according to Florida Lottery officials.

As of Saturday morning, the ticket has been claimed by a Florida resident.

To enter the daily drawings throughout Florida, players must purchase at least one ticket.

It’s a common practice to have a winning ticket purchased in the days after a natural disaster to draw players to buy more tickets.

Winning tickets are reported to the Florida Lottery immediately by the state or by calling the number provided after the ticket is purchased. A lottery representative can be reached at 1-800-GO-LOTTO.

Mega Millions tickets are available at retailers everywhere for $2.
